Who Should Attend

This course is designed for leaders and aspiring leaders who want to create a work environment fostering positivity, creativity and independence, even under challenging circumstances.  Executive presence--your confidence, communication, appearance and body language, emotional intelligence, authenticity and integrity--is key to delivering on all these expectations.  This course is designed to help you hone these key attributes.  This course will also equip you with some simple approaches to self-correct any areas that can diminish executive presence. 

Our instructor is a federal Senior Executive Service with 30 years of experience leading teams and delivering high impact results for Congress.
 

Course Overview

Leaders need to be able to inspire their teams; coach all performers, ranging from the strongest to those with significant areas for improvement; instill high standards for performance; target scarce resources to the most important goals; efficiently and effectively deliver results to clients; and be confident and credible while doing it all. 

This course is built around 6 key areas that are critical for leaders’ success:
 

  • Know yourself.  How do you communicate? How do you process information? What are your strengths? Where do you need improvement? 
  • Know your role--next steps to stay in learner mode and grow in your role or in the role to which you aspire. 
     
  • How to establish credibility with your clients, your managers/supervisors, and your staff?
     
  • Tips to influence.  Your team is composed of boomers, millennials, Gen Z and Gen Xs.  How do you reach all of them and motivate them to achieve results? 
     
  • Being strategic.  What should you focus on the most as a leader when you are getting pulled in all directions?
     
  • How to physically show up in the office and on camera.  Small things matter (word choice, tone, body language, lighting, clothes, colors, accessories, etc.

Course Topics

Know Yourself and Your Role

  • Take an assessment to identify your top 5 strengths and 5 areas you scored lowest. Explore all 10.
     
  • Engage in class discussion on an assessment that identifies an individual's natural talent patterns in thinking, feeling, and behaving, helping them develop these talents into strengths for greater success, engagement, and well-being in life and work.
     
  • See how the assessment tool focuses on what is right with people, identifying top talents from 34 themes.
     
  • Determine how you can lean into these areas in your current role or role to which you aspire. Discuss the results of your assessment with your partner and brainstorm ideas.
     
  • Develop a plan of action to build upon your top 5 strengths and improve on the lowest 5, with specific and measurable goals.
     
  • Discuss your action plan with your partner and obtain feedback

Establishing Credibility and Influencing Others

  • What is credibility and why not having it can derail you?
     
  • Why influencers win and how can you learn to be more effective.

    Develop a plan of action with specific, measurable goals to enhance your personal credibility and influence.
     
  • Discuss your action plan with your partner and obtain feedback.

Strategic Vision

  • Why strategy matters.
     
  • What are the keys to being strategic?
     
  • Practically, what daily habits should you employ to ensure you are being strategic and working smarter, not harder?
     
  • Watch video and discuss with class.
     
  • Develop your own strategic vision using the principles learned in class and discuss with your partner and obtain feedback.
