This course is designed for Federal employees, Federal contractors, and anyone else who needs or wants a thorough refresher in the fundamental rules of grammar and usage.

What You Will Learn

  • Receive a thorough refresher in grammar and usage. 
  • Identify and correct some of the most common grammatical mistakes.
     
  • Recognize and use standard, workplace English. 
  • Review the eight parts of speech and the most common grammar errors that writers make when using them. 
  • Verbs - learn the various grammar rules related to them, including subject and verb agreement, verb tenses, verb conjugation, and irregular verbs.
     
  • Learn to use different types of sentences and sentence structures. 
  • Avoid run-on sentences, fragments, and comma splices. 
  • Understand the importance of recognizing independent and dependent clauses.
     
  • Avoid making mistakes when using some of the most commonly misused words in the English language, such as "lie" vs. "lay" and "affect" vs. "effect." 
  • Punctuation- Learn easy to remember rules for commas, semicolons, colons, apostrophes, parentheses, quotation marks, and MORE!!!
     
  • Learn rules for capitalization and numbers.
